Project Source Toilet Reviews 2024: Should You Have It?

In the world of TOTO and American Standard, not so many people even think about other brands. Yet, we are talking about Project Source toilet reviews here!

Let me assure you— there are some other brands doing really well. And Project Source is one of them. And it’s from Lowe! However, you need to know every detail about it before you can make up your mind.

Project Source toilets are available in both single and double pieces. It has a sleek and attractive design to match various types of bathrooms’ interiors.

Let’s check out more about this toilet.

Why Project Source Toilet Is A Good Choice?

Project Source toilet

Project Source is a reliable and popular choice for bathroom toilets. The company offers high-quality toilets at a lower price.

Let’s look at some important features of this toilet to make an educative decision before buying the product.

  • Unboxing and Installation

I’ll start with the unboxing and installation process. Purchasing the toilet was simple enough – we ordered it online from Target and it arrived in about a week.

The packaging was sturdy and protected the toilet well in transit.

Installation was also pretty straightforward. The instructions in the manual were clear and easy to follow. It took my husband about 2-3 hours to get it fully installed and operational.

The only hiccup was that the bolt caps to cover the bolts attaching the toilet to the floor didn’t fit properly. But that was just a minor inconvenience.

Overall, I was pleased with how smoothly the initial unboxing and installation process went. The toilet arrived undamaged, install was relatively quick, and we encountered no major issues.

  • Design

As for the design of this toilet, it stands out from many cheap quality toilets. I liked the thickness of the base.

Project Source ensured a practical design for the toilet base. Plus, its base width is almost similar to the bowl.

A significant difference won’t be visible between the bowl, base, and tank in terms of width.

Plus, its base is pretty smooth. No artistic design! It is smooth and flat. Though some people will prefer a little design on the front, a simple appearance is not that bad.

Your cleaning process will be more effortless due to the smooth base. Since no dirt will get stored on the texture, you can simply clean the flat surface with a quick wipe with a damp cloth

  • Elongated Toilet Bowl

Project Source toilets have an elongated toilet bowl to make you more comfortable while sitting on the toilet. Additionally, it is a sophisticated choice to save space compared to traditional toilets.

  • Decent Flushing Capability

Here’s where the quality of a toilet really counts – its flushing power and performance. I’m happy to say that the Project Source toilet delivers surprisingly robust flushing action.

It has a 3-inch flush valve, which is larger than many basic toilets. This allows more water to flow into the bowl when you flush. It uses 1.28 gallons per flush, which helps provide sufficient power.

I’ve been impressed with how effectively it clears waste with just a single flush every time. Even larger loads or more stubborn clogs don’t faze it. And it refills the tank quickly between flushes.

The flushing system is relatively quiet too. You can hold a conversation in the bathroom without having to pause while it’s running. And it doesn’t keep refilling the tank constantly like some toilets do.

Overall, flushing performance has been excellent. That’s the most important feature for a toilet in my book.

  • A Water-efficient Product

In addition to strong flushing capabilities, the Project Source toilet is also pretty water efficient. As I mentioned, it uses 1.28 gallons per flush.

That’s a 20% reduction from the old 1.6 gpf federal standard. So you can save a decent amount of water over time compared to less efficient models.

It achieved WaterSense certification from the EPA for meeting strict criteria for water efficiency and performance. So I can feel good that it provides effective flush power while still conserving water.

The tank refills quickly after flushing, so you don’t have to wait long between flushes. It fills with a steady, quiet stream of water.

I also haven’t noticed any tank sweating or leaks, which can waste water over time. Overall, I’m satisfied with the water savings this toilet provides.

  • Dual Flush System

Due to the inclusion of a dual flushing system, the toilet will use less amount of water to clean the waste efficiently. This will lower your monthly water bill.

According to many experts, you can save up to 4,000 gallons of water per year because of this flushing system.

  • Fully-glazed Trapway

Another notable feature of Project Source toilets is that they have A fully-glazed trapway is. It is often a top choice among many consumers.

Now, you must be wondering why people like it. Waste and water can go through the existing path more smoothly due to this type of trapway. Thus, users will likely face less dreaded clogging issues while using this type of toilet.

  • Easy Installation

Project Source toilets are available in both single and double pieces. Both of them are easy to install.

Generally, you should pick one-piece toilets to save space in your small bathroom. However, they are slightly heavy. You can effortlessly clean this one-piece unit without any problem.

Plus, fewer bacteria will grow!

On the other hand, if you want to have more customized options, two-piece toilets are better. You can install them based on your preferred height and style.

As for the individual unit, they are lighter than the one-piece toilet. Now, watch its installation video!

  • Comfortable Height

Height is one of the most important yet overlooked features while choosing a decent toilet. Not all toilets will give you the same comfort due to their different design and height.

Since it has a standard height bowl, you will feel comfortable sitting down and standing up. Both grown-up men and women can use it comfortably —even disabled people won’t face any issue with using this toilet.

  • Ease of Cleaning

No one likes cleaning toilets, but it has to be done. I’ve found the Project Source toilet to be relatively easy to keep clean and sanitary.

The ceramic glaze has a glossy finish that prevents grime and mineral buildup. After several months of use, it still looks like new without stubborn stains or residue.

The flush mechanism and tank are easy to access, so I can get in there to scrub down mineral deposits or discoloration. And the toilet brushes I already had fit nicely into the bowl to scrub the interior.

I will say that the nooks and crannies in the trapway can collect dust and debris. But some careful scrubbing keeps it looking tip top.

Overall, the smooth surfaces and simple design make cleaning this toilet fairly hassle-free. Just the standard brushing and disinfecting keeps it sparkling.

  • Durability and Reliability

No one wants to deal with a faulty toilet that constantly clogs, leaks, or requires repair work. So how does the Project Source toilet measure up long-term?

So far, it has been pretty reliable with no major malfunctions. The flushing mechanism shows no signs of deteriorating after months of regular use.

The toilet feels solidly constructed from quality vitreous china. I don’t worry about it cracking or chipping if I accidentally bump it with the plunger or brush.

However, as I mentioned earlier, the toilet seat leaves something to be desired. The plastic hinges and mounting bolts look like potential weak points. Only time will tell if the seat holds up or eventually becomes loose.

But the toilet itself seems durable enough to last for years of family use. If we eventually need to replace the seat, that’s an easy fix.

  • Affordable Price

The Project Source toilet has an MSRP of $199.99, though it’s often on sale for $149.99 or less. That puts it squarely in the budget-friendly category.

For the price, it provides robust flushing power, efficient water usage, straightforward maintenance, and decent durability. The modern style is also more stylish than similarly priced options.

Could you get a toilet with thicker, higher quality materials for a higher price? Certainly. But I think this model provides plenty of value at an affordable cost.

The price was right in line with our budget for this bathroom upgrade. And the performance has exceeded my expectations so far. For a family that needs a basic, reliable toilet without breaking the bank, it’s a great option.

  • 5-Years Warranty

Project Source toilets have a 5-year warranty, which is enough to expect from a budget-friendly toilet.

Thus, you have nothing to fear about the cracking or damaged issues for the new product. If the tank or bowl is broken or damaged before installing the product, it will be covered by the warranty.

  1. Not sure I trust the info. Sorry. There has to be more cons than two. Are you being paid for this?

  2. Clyde,
Why can’t I find parts for the Project Source toilets, e.g., Project Source Pro-Flush White Dual Flush.

  3. Brand new project source toilet just installed it three flushes and the flapper already doesn’t seal. Very disappointed. I’ll never buy another one.

  4. The pro choice toilet that I ‘m looking at is round and flushes at 1.28 gpm and is made in Mexico, also you didn’t say anything about the MAP score. Is it 500 or better?

  5. I was a plumbing contractor for seven years, and have worked for two dozen or more other contractors. I trust Kohler and American Standard, others, not so much.

  6. Got a project source toilet.

    Hate it.

Difficult to clean. Flush valve sucks – The top plastic cap isn’t fitted properly, so the refill speed slows to an absolute crawl. The weirdo contours of the unit won’t allow the install of a bidet which is a huge minus. Regret it everyday.

  7. I would not recommend this toilet.
    What I posted elsewhere:

I have a new toilet. “Project source” brand from Lowe’s. I think it’s a piece of crap! Pun intended. I am trying to figure out how to stop it from clogging continuously.

The exit flow seems to be very slow compared to other toilets.

There is a riser on the flush valve where the flapper sits. I am guessing 3” from the bottom of the bowl to the flapper. That means a lot of water is left in the upper bowl. So much for water saving bowls. When they don’t work!

Anyways, I have adjusted the fluid master flapper to a 10 which means it should not restrict water.

It’s still getting clogged. I fault the riser and lack of water flushing. I think. Anyone have more ideas? My next attempt is to replace the flush valve with one that has no riser on it. Unless anyone has better ideas?

I can take a 5 gallon bucket of water push it into the toilet bowl and it flushes ok but not amazing. I think there stil might be some small obstruction so I plan to get a snake today. I do notice that the exit channels seem to be more curved on this toilet vs others. But maybe that is me wanting to find more fault with this cheap 120 dollar toilet at Lowe’s

    1. My upstairs bathroom: combination of Pax/copper pipe installed in the last 10 years. Oversized supplied line to the toilet with new quarter turn shut off. Good flow of water to sink, have not measured it but certainly not a dribble. Installed the round bowl single flush with 3 inch valve.

      Makes a great urinal!

Bowl is slow to refill, side jets around bowl don’t do much, can leave TP stuck to side of bowl when flushing. Water level after filling seems a bit low in the bowl.
Does not clear solids every time.
I have found to get a full flush; you have to hold the flush valve handle down. Could be the flapper is just too heavy and does not float like one would expect. Have not had any issues with flush valve sticking or not sealing so far.

I was trying to save water and keep cost down, which it does, but not happy with the overall performance. Considering the amount of water left in the tank on a normal flush, I would think that making the riser pipe about 2 inches taller would help. It’s not just the bowl emptying, but how well it moves the solids down the line after it clears the toilet. Got to wonder about that one!

  8. We got a P S toilet from Lowe’s. Works ok but I recently bought a Kohler bidet seat & they do not sit together well. The seat overlaps the toilet bowl.
