Zero-Sealing Premixed Urethane Grout

Tired of applying penetrating chemical sealers to shower grout joints every year? Read our hands-on review of Bostik Never-Seal grout to see how urethane binder technology resists mildew, soap scum, and cracking in wet zones.

Never Put Rigid Grout in Shower Corners

Even the strongest epoxy or polymer grout will crack along 90-degree wall-to-wall and wall-to-pan expansion joints. Check our technical breakdown of caulk vs. grout for shower corners to prevent hidden water leaks behind your tile.

DIY Re-Grouting vs. Franchise Restoration

Safe Daily Maintenance for Cured Grout Lines

Harsh bleach and acidic toilet cleaners eat away cementitious grout and strip color sealers over time. See how a targeted spray performs on dingy bathroom joints in our Goo Gone grout and tile cleaner test.

Grout Coverage Chart & How Our Tile Grout Calculator Works

Grout consumption is governed by four geometric dimensions: tile width ($W$), tile length ($L$), tile thickness ($T$), and grout joint width ($J$). Because a 2×2-inch shower pan mosaic has 12 times more linear feet of grout channel per square foot than a 12×24-inch wall tile, guessing bag counts by square footage alone leads to costly shortages. Our grout coverage calculator and grout estimator apply the standard Tile Council of North America (TCNA) volumetric equation and include a 10% float-cleanup buffer. Use the reference grout coverage chart below to compare standard tile sizes at a glance:

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sf does a 25 lb bag of grout cover?

A 25-lb bag of grout covers between 50 and 565 square feet depending on your tile size, tile thickness, and joint width. With a standard 1/8-inch grout joint, one 25-lb bag covers approximately 375 to 400 square feet of 12×24-inch tile, 285 to 300 square feet of 12×12-inch tile, 150 to 165 square feet of 3×6-inch subway tile, or 65 to 80 square feet of 2×2-inch shower floor mosaic tile. If you increase the joint width to 1/4 inch on 12×12-inch floor tiles, coverage drops to roughly 185 to 200 square feet per 25-lb bag.

How do I calculate how much grout I will need?

To calculate how much grout you will need, follow the four-step TCNA volumetric formula: (1) Calculate your joint length ratio by adding (Tile Width + Tile Length) in inches and dividing by (Tile Width × Tile Length); (2) Multiply that figure by your Joint Width (in inches) × Tile Thickness (in inches) × 0.85 to find the pounds of grout needed per square foot; (3) Multiply by your total tiled area in square feet; and (4) Add 10% to 15% extra for surface float cleanup and mixing bucket waste. Entering your tile dimensions into our interactive 3D tile grout calculator above runs this exact equation automatically.

How many sq ft will 10lbs of grout cover?

A 10-lb bag of grout covers between 25 and 225 square feet. Using a standard 1/8-inch grout line, 10 lbs of grout covers roughly 150 square feet of 12×24-inch tile, 115 square feet of 12×12-inch tile, 62 square feet of 3×6-inch subway tile, or 28 to 32 square feet of 2×2-inch mosaic sheet tile. With a tighter 1/16-inch rectified joint, a single 10-lb bag of unsanded or fine-aggregate grout can cover up to 120 square feet of 3×6 subway tile or 300 square feet of 12×24 tile.

How much will 1 quart of grout cover?

One quart of premixed grout (57.75 cubic inches of volume, weighing roughly 3.3 to 3.5 lbs) covers between 9 and 75 square feet. At a standard 1/8-inch joint width, 1 quart of grout covers 20 to 22 square feet of 3×6-inch subway tile, 38 square feet of 12×12-inch tile, 50 square feet of 12×24-inch tile, or 9 to 11 square feet of 2×2-inch shower pan mosaic tile. If you use a narrow 1/16-inch joint, 1 quart covers 40 square feet of subway tile or up to 95 square feet of 12×24 tile—making 1-quart tubs ideal for vanity backsplashes, shower niches, and small bathroom floors.
