Fine Accoutrements makes a traditional tallow-based shaving soap with dense lather, good cushion, strong fragrance options, and an easy-to-load 5.3 oz puck.
The performance is genuinely good, especially in hard water. But at $34, Fine is no longer a budget traditional soap, and modern artisan competitors offer equally strong—or sometimes slicker—bases for less money.
Here is my updated Fine Shave Soap review.

My Experience With Fine Shaving Soap
Fine feels like a traditional shaving soap that has been modernized without losing the classic wet-shaving character.
The puck is firm enough that I do not accidentally overload the brush, but it still loads easily after a short bloom or with a slightly damp brush.
Once I start building the lather, I get a thick, glossy foam fairly quickly.
The texture reminds me more of:
- Yogurt
- Dense cream
- Traditional Italian tallow soap
than an airy canned shaving foam.
The cushion is very good.
That means the lather provides enough body between the razor and skin to make a three-pass shave feel controlled.
I also like the post-shave feel.
My skin does not immediately feel stripped or squeaky after rinsing.
The oils and tallow give the soap more conditioning than a basic hard puck.
Where I think Fine is slightly more divisive is slickness.
Some wet shavers absolutely love it.
Others think the residual slickness is only average compared with the very best modern artisan bases.
I fall somewhere in the middle.
Primary slickness is good.
Cushion is good.
Residual slickness is decent.
But at $34, I expect a lot.
That price puts Fine directly against some excellent artisan soaps.
So I would buy Fine mainly when I love one of the scents, not because I think the soap base is unquestionably superior to every competitor.

Key Features Of The Fine Shave Soap
This soap comes with some amazing features or benefits that are focused on satisfying the user.
Now, think about this, when you use soap, you surely don’t want to be disappointed, right?
I mean, what’s the point of having the soap then. So, let’s check out the features that make this soap so good for shaving purposes –
- Excellent Lathering

The first thing you should be looking for in a bar of soap is its lather quality.
Whether the consistency of the lather is good or not matters a lot.
And let me tell you, this one doesn’t disappoint you in that regard at all.
It lathers very nice and smoothly. The slickness of the lather is just on point. And it doesn’t take too much time to lather either.
Altogether, you just end up with a great experience of shaving soap when it comes to the lather quality, at least.
Now, that’s the most important thing you will be looking to get in a shave soap anyways. Anything more than that is just additional features that make the soap even better.
- Good Scent To Soothe Your Experience
Along with the exceptional lather quality, you also get a very soothing scent from the soap. It has a generous amount of scent that lasts for as long as you are using the soap.
The best part is when you are done using the soap; it leaves out a scent that you just love to have on your skin.
While it’s good it’s not overpowering either. It has a faint scent that works out well for people who like to have that subtlety in the scent of the products they use. So, this is just the pick for those kinds of people.
Typically, the scent of the soap matters quite a lot, especially when it’s a shaving soap. You don’t want to smell bad after shaving at all. And this one surely provides you with the factor of a good scent.
- No Chemicals Or Artificial Colors

When you go with this shaving soap, you don’t have to worry about any skin damage on your skin from the soap.
This doesn’t have any chemicals that can harm your skin in some way or other.
That makes this a safe option for those with sensitive skin.
Also, it doesn’t contain any kind of artificial coloring either.
So, what you get with this one is a pure soap puck that just provides you with lather to shave.
There is no added chemical or anything to harm your skin or cause any kind of issues on your skin at all.
- It Feels Very Smooth On The Skin
Well, a typical complaint people have with shaving soap is that it feels rough on their skin. But with this one, the picture will be a bit different.
The soap will feel very smooth and soft on your skin without causing any form of discomfort at all. You will love the feel when the soap touches your skin.
The finish on the soap is very clean, so it doesn’t have any rough edges or any kind either. You just get the perfect soap you would need for shaving purposes.
And when you combine the smoothness with the quality lather, it’s just the best thing you get.
- It Lasts For Quite A Long
One troublesome issue with using a bar of soap is knowing how long it will truly last. I can assure you with this soap; you can go on for several shaving sessions with ease.
Since the soap lathers very easily and quickly, you won’t have to keep rubbing it on your skin.
This means you won’t be wasting too much soap in your shaving process when you are using this one as your pick. Eventually, what you end up with here is the soap’s longevity.
Sure, it’s not going to be too long, but it lasts a decent duration to satisfy you with the application for sure.
- It’s a value for money option.

By the looks of the other features, you may wonder that this will be very expensive. While in truth, it isn’t.
This is one of the most value for money soaps that you get to see around.
And the best part is that it comes with so many good values, you can’t even complain about having a high price.
But you won’t have to worry about that anyway, because the pricing of the soap is fairly reasonable.
I don’t think it’s overpriced, considering the kind of value you get out of it.
As you can see, there are so many good things this soap has to offer for your shaving purposes. But is it all good?
Well, just like anything else, this one has its drawbacks as well. I will go through that to decide on getting this soap with all the necessary information.
What Could Have Been Better With Fine Shave Soap?
To be very honest, I don’t think the issues with the soap are that big of a deal. It’s only concerning if you care about some particular stuff.
Having said that, let’s check out which things they could have been better on –
- The Scent Is A Bit Faint
Like I said earlier, the scent of the soap isn’t the most prominent or dominating one. It’s a very subtle one. So, if you are looking for a scented soap for your personal needs, then this is truly not the option for you.
Only people who love the faint scent will enjoy having this one. This might be a bit of a bad pick for the other ones.
- Storing Can Be Trouble
The size of the soap puck can feel a bit of trouble at times. You will need to find an appropriate mug or dish to store the puck properly.
You can’t just leave it out somewhere, as that will ruin the soap. Some people opt to mash it in, but I don’t think that’s the best way to store a bar of soap.
You can find an easy solution to the storage, so that shouldn’t be that big of a problem. As for the scent, even though it’s faint, I still think it smells pretty good.
So, if you don’t mind the subtle smell, this can be a great pick without any doubts at all.
