How To Hang A Mirror Without Hooks On The Back?

When it comes to hanging a mirror, you may try out different options. Let’s have a look at what we can do about this situation.

Use a Heavy-Duty Mounting Tape

You can use a strong tape designed especially for wall mirrors to hang it safely to the wall or plasterboard.

  • Clean The Area First

Prep the area by cleaning the wall’s surface where the mirror must hang. You can do this by wiping the surface with a clean damp, or dry cloth.

  • Prep The Mounting Tape

Now prepare the mounting adhesive. Some of the best mourning tapes for mirrors are Gorilla Heavy Duty Mounting Tape and Scotch Extremely Strong Mounting Tape.

Cut the tape into 2 pieces to be placed either horizontally or vertically along the length of the mirror. The pieces don’t have to be precisely the same in length. Approximate measurement is fine.

  • Attach Tape On Back of Mirror

Stick the tapes to the back of the mirror after thoroughly cleaning the back of the mirror. You don’t want any dust sticking as it will affect the glue’s effectiveness. Now, strip off the other side of the tape.

  • Attach Mirror To Wall

Once you have attached the mirror to the wall, provided you have done your homework regarding symmetry, press the areas of the mirror where the tape is stuck gently with your palms.

This is to ensure the glue sticks to the mirror and the wall properly. Then, take a step back and observe your work of art!

Use Anchors

Another way to hang a mirror on a wall without hooks is to use drywall anchors. You need them to carry the weight of heavy mirrors.

For mirrors that are lighter in weight, sleeve expansion anchors are fine. However, you have to make some holes in the wall using drills for this to happen.

With a No-Slip Adhesive

There are several other ways to hang a mirror on the wall without using hooks. One such way is to use a no-slip adhesive.

  1. Begin by marking out the area on the wall where the mirror should be. You can easily use removable tapes to do so in a circular or rectangular position.
  2. Sand down the area inside the tape, wipe any dirt on it, then apply some primer over it.
  3. When the primer is all dry, gently remove the tape surrounding the area. Now, affix a wooden brace on the bottom of the mirror marking horizontally.
  4. It is time to apply the mirror no-slip adhesive at the back of the mirror. Make a few vertical or horizontal lines so that it sticks well to the wall. Just remember to apply the adhesive two inches inside the edges to prevent squeezeouts.
  5. Use the wooden brace as support and slowly stick the mirror to the wall. Let the raised corners settle down for leverage. Now, press the mirror firmly to the wall with a paint roller.
  6. Put two tapes on the top corners of the mirror for a while until the adhesive is completely dry and the mirror is safely secured on the wall.

Finally, get rid of the wooden brace from underneath the mirror and patch up any holes or marks that you see on the wall. Finish by removing the tapes from the top corners.

Clamps for Brick Walls

I have touched upon hanging a mirror on tiled and drywalls. Now let’s see what you can do about brick walls!

Follow the steps illustrated below to find out how you can use clamps on brick walls to hang mirrors.

  • Step 1

Firstly, clean the area of the brick wall where the mirror should sit.

Find some brick wall clamps from the hardware store. Get a few different sizes just in case you need them. Also, make sure the clip can fit into the gaps between the mortar and brick.

The clamps must be suitable for the height and width of the bricks. You can choose bricks that come with springs at the bottom, and they have to be sturdy enough to carry the weight of your mirror.

  • Step 2

Now, affix the teeth of the clips on the brick wall where the mirror should be. One behind at the top and one behind the bottom of the mirror. The spring end of the clip must be at the bottom of the brick.

When you press the clip upward, the spring will cast down to go over the top of the brick. But you can remove it as well. Just depress the spring until the teeth detach from the brick!

  • Step 3

Following, place the mirror frame gently over the hooks of the clamps. You may need one clamp for small mirrors and two or more for bigger mirrors. The larger mirrors need support on two ends at the edges with the clamps.

To finalize, adjust the mirror to sit symmetrically.

With French Cleat Brackets

Hanging a Heavy Mirror by French Cleat

The last amazing option you have to hang your hookless mirror on the wall is with French cleat brackets. These brackets are quite secure to hang heavy mirrors (even the ones that are 27 kilograms or 60 pounds), but some tough work is required.

Let’s get to the real thing!

  • Step 1

You should get an instruction manual with the French cleat kit that you can refer to from the beginning. Clean the back of the mirror and also the surface where the mirror will be attached.

Mark the spots where the cleats should be behind the mirror. Then screw them in one by one. Screws should be provided in the kit, so you just need a screwdriver.

  • Step 2

Use a stud finder to pinpoint a stud on the wall where the mirror should be. Mark that spot with a pencil or chalk. Now, screw the French cleat where you just marked on the wall.

  • Step 3

The next step is to raise the mirror over the cleats that are screwed to the wall. Then, let the cleats of the mirror clasp the cleats on the wall. Yes, that is it!

Conclusion

If you assumed that there is only one way to hang a mirror to a wall, and that is by using hooks, this article has proven you wrong. Because there is not just one, but five safe and secure methods to hang mirrors on the wall!

Now that you are aware of these methods, you should no longer worry about hanging a mirror that doesn’t have hooks!
